Smarthouse Considerations

  • Use open standards so you can mix and match components and not be dependent on one supplier
    • Z-Wave, ZigBee, WiFi, BlueTooth
  • Prefer devices that are powered and not powered on battery (a lot of battery changing + some devices act as repeaters when on power)
  • When looking at Cameras prefer
    • OnVIF-T (Best camera protocol)
    • PoE (to have power and signal in one cable)
    • Google Assistant and Google Nest Hub support
    • Homey support (take picture and motion detection)
  • Prefer solutions that are processed locally and not in the cloud. Less latency, higher security and its your to control
  • Prefer smart dimmers instead of smart lights (that can be turned off by others)
  • Prefer smart heating to save money
  • Build your house with power outlets on top of all windows.
  • Prefer devices that talk natively to your preferred smarthouse solution, not through the Cloud.
