Thomas Ekdahls ramblings about the smarthouse joys and frustrations
- Use open standards so you can mix and match components and not be dependent on one supplier
- Z-Wave, ZigBee, WiFi, BlueTooth
- Prefer devices that are powered and not powered on battery (a lot of battery changing + some devices act as repeaters when on power)
- When looking at Cameras prefer
- OnVIF-T (Best camera protocol)
- PoE (to have power and signal in one cable)
- Google Assistant and Google Nest Hub support
- Homey support (take picture and motion detection)
- Prefer solutions that are processed locally and not in the cloud. Less latency, higher security and its your to control
- Prefer smart dimmers instead of smart lights (that can be turned off by others)
- Prefer smart heating to save money
- Build your house with power outlets on top of all windows.
- Prefer devices that talk natively to your preferred smarthouse solution, not through the Cloud.
